چکیده

confirm anatomical continuity between the tumor and the renal vein and the vena cava. Treatment of choice is surgery, and outcome in the absence of intervention is poor. In the case reported here, it was difficult to confirm anatomical continuity since the patient had undergone hysterectomy and double adnexectomy 2 years previously. The prognosis of endometrial stromal sarcoma is good, and its evolution and behavior cannot be compared to the considerably more aggressive renal cancer. In the case of IVC and intracardiac thrombi, surgery is recommended for excision of the tumor thrombosis, with or without IVC resection, in order to prevent sudden death due to pulmonary embolism or the development of congestive heart failure or death due to acute valvular obstruction.4 We did not find any published cases of patients treated with anticoagulation only. To conclude, it is safe to say that although surgery is the treatment of choice for IVC and/or intracardiac tumor thrombosis, for patients with advanced or inoperable disease or those who refuse surgery, chronic anticoagulation may also be a valid treatment option. In our view, there are probably many cases in which tumor thrombosis coexists with non-tumor thrombosis: it is easy to imagine that a lumen occupied by a tumor will favor the development of non-tumor thrombosis. This would explain the almost complete resolution of our case with anticoagulant treatment. References

Cysteamine re-establishes the clearance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by macrophages bearing the cystic fibrosis-relevant F508del-CFTR mutation

Cystic fibrosis (CF), the most common lethal monogenic disease in Caucasians, is characterized by recurrent bacterial infections and colonization, mainly by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, resulting in unresolved airway inflammation. CF is caused by mutations in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein, which functions as a chloride channel in epithelia...

Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator is an epithelial cell receptor for clearance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from the lung.

The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is a chloride ion channel, but its relationship to the primary clinical manifestation of CF, chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa pulmonary infection, is unclear. We report that CFTR is a cellular receptor for binding, endocytosing, and clearing P. aeruginosa from the normal lung. Murine cells expressing recombinant human wild-type CFTR i...

Deleterious impact of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator function and rescue in airway epithelial cells.

The epithelial response to bacterial airway infection, a common feature of lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis, has been extensively studied. However, its impact on cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channel function is not clearly defined. Our aims were, therefore, to evaluate the effect of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on CFTR funct...

Innate lung defenses and compromised Pseudomonas aeruginosa clearance in the malnourished mouse model of respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is characterized by dysfunction of the digestive and respiratory tracts resulting in generalized malnutrition and chronic respiratory infections. Chronic lung infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, intense neutrophil-dominated airway inflammation, and progressive lung disease are the major cause of high morbidity and mortality in CF. Here we investigated the effects of mal...

Quorum Sensing Down-Regulation Counteracts the Negative Impact of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on CFTR Channel Expression, Function and Rescue in Human Airway Epithelial Cells

The function of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channels is crucial in human airways. However unfortunately, chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection has been shown to impair CFTR proteins in non-CF airway epithelial cells (AEC) and to alter the efficiency of new treatments with CFTR modulators designed to correct the basic CFTR default in AEC from cystic fibrosis (CF...
